The Internet has changed the way people do business in a multiple of ways, especially communication. Communication has changed with the invention of email. Email has become a key ingredient in keeping in touch with various contacts that include friends, family, clients and other people. It has changed the way marketing is done too and is another powerful tool for a business. In the past, people would send out regular postal mail and this would cost them money because of stamps and envelopes and other things. Email marketing is very cost effective and it brings in success for businesses like never before.

The first thing you need to do with email marketing is create an email list. This is the most time consuming part of email marketing but it pays off tenfold in the end. There are different methods in acquiring people’s email addresses and the methods can include offering free newsletters, having people sign up for the mailing list on your website and other things. It is very important that people do opt in to your list, so that you can avoid spam complaints. The bottom line is you need to get people interested, and so if you have interesting content on your website people will come to it and sign up to your list.

Once you have a good email list, then it’s time to start making and sending out the emails. When creating the emails it is important to have an interesting and catchy headline that people will want to click on and one that will avoid spam filters. Failing at this step will be devastating because if people don’t like the headline they read, they can immediately drop it into the trash, or the e-mail was filtered without them seeing it initially. Deleting email is as easy as clicking a button and you don’t want your email to fall into the trash.

Once you get the person to click on the email, putting a personal touch on it is a good thing to do. People like that personal touch because it doesn’t feel like they are talking to a computer; they want to know that it’s an actual person on the other end, someone they can relate to and trust in. Yes the email you send out will be going to a lot of people at once, but if you can find a way to make it seem like you are sending out a different email to each person, that will help you out. Mention things about your personal life, or ask them questions that will generate a response.

People are busy in today’s world and people only have a set amount of time each day to check their email and read them. If you can get their attention fast then that is when you start seeing success. And that success will hopefully generate into making money. After all, whom would you rather do business with, someone who just sends sales e-mails, or someone who sends that personal touch?
