Anytime you step into the shower, ready to start off your day with a nice warm burst of water or to rinse off after an intense workout, the last thing you want to find is the water starting to pool around your feet because of the fact that there is some kind of clog in the drain.

We have all experienced this situation and we have all also felt the frustration that a clogged shower drain can cause. We all want to get it fixed as quickly and easily as possible.

For myself there have been a couple of times in my life where I have hopped in the shower to discover after a few minutes that I was standing in a pool or dirty water and as I have gotten older I have also gained more experience in how to deal with this. In a way a clog in a drain sort of chokes the air/water flow through your plumbing pipes and ironically a clogged drain should be checked in a similar fashion to how you would check someone who is a potential unconscious choking victim. It is best to get close to the drain and to see if there is anything blocking the airway (piping/opening) that you can reach and pull out with your fingers or another object, rather than just blasting away at it right away.
