It's important that you keep your feet clean. Forgetting to wash them doesnt just make your feet smelly-as if that isn't bad enough-but it allows fungus and bacteria to flourish. Get a good scrubber with stiff bristles to give your feet a good rub-down on a daily basis, taking care to wash and rinse thoroughly. Leftover soap can leave your skin extremely irritated and dried out.
An age old and simple method of keeping your feet fresh and germ free is to soak it in warm water every night after you have first scrubbed it thoroughly to remove any dirt. This ensures that the germs that have built in through out the day don’t begin to get into your body during the night. You will also feel relaxed and have good nights sleep. However only use this methods at times when you don’t have time, if you do have the time you should treat your feet to the best treatment possible.
Stay away from boots or shoes that are tight or hard, because these can cause painful blisters and cons. If you are walking long distances be sure to wear comfortable shoes or better yet buy yourself walking shoes. Even though this may seem elementary, but I have seen many people who have spoilt their feet by wearing fashionable but uncomfortable shoes.
Your feet need moisturizer just like the rest of you; in fact, sometimes they need it more. Your feet are often exposed to the elements in open-toed shoes, making it impossible for them to retain their healthy moisture balance. Dryness can lead to painful cracking and itching, so make sure to give your feet a heavy coat of moisturizer daily. It's important that you watch out for such cracking, because a cut on the foot can easily become infected. It is especially important that people with diabetes check their feet daily for any signs of broken skin to avoid potentially serious health problems. If you have diabetes, ask you doctor for proper methods of inspection. For heavy-duty moisturizing of severely parched feet in an otherwise healthy person, cover your feet in a heavy moisturizer, such as a petrolatum product, and then put cotton socks before bed.
If you find that even after a good scrubbing, rinse and coat of moisturizer, your feet or toes are still itchy, you might have athlete's foot. Athlete's foot is an irritating fungal infection that infests your feet, causing itching and burning sensations. Most can be treated with a simple topical application of an anti-fungal cream, available at any pharmacy. And of course, in order to maintain the health of your feet overall, you have to take care of your toenails. Keep them clean and carefully trimmed, cut close to the toe and straight across, to avoid painful ingrown toenails. Tend to your feet carefully, so that you don't mind walking a mile in your own shoes.
