One of the most popular items on the market today is the hair straightener. There tends to be a common misconception regarding these products and the proper use of them. Despite the fact that they all come packaged with proper operating instructions, the neglect of users causes an array of mishaps. In minutes you could have a small blaze growing in your bedroom, either that or a terrible burn in the rug.

It’s never a wise idea to allow children to play near a hair straightening iron that is plugged in and turned on. Teach them as soon as they are old enough to understand that it’s a very hot item that should never be touched no matter what. Hyper active pets like dogs or puppies should be kept out of rooms where you’re using the hot flat iron. It doesn’t take much for a wagging tail to hook the cord and pull the entire thing down. Keeping the door closed while you do your hair will save you hassle and potential danger.

Some straighteners come with a timer built in so that they will turn off after a given period of time. This is a safety feature in case you forget you’ve turned it on perhaps due to a phone call or someone at the door. However, it’s important not to rely on this feature as a regular way to turn your hair straightener off. It isn’t always good enough to simply turn it off either. Unplug it to avoid any chance of accidental fire. It might not seem like a common occurrence but it does happen. Why take your chances?

Safety precautions are a necessary part of life. The time you take to implement them may save time and even lives later. Hair straightener safety is relatively simple. Prevent fires and burn related issues by preventing those hazards before they can happen. Anyone can have silky, smooth hair but it shouldn’t come at the price of health and safety.
