A simple added touch that can really add to your decor is a baby-themed centerpiece. You don't need to spend a lot of time or money creating a centerpiece, and you can be as creative as you want.
One really simple option for a baby shower centerpiece is to use the dessert as the centerpiece, which is typically a decorated cake. This gives your guests a chance to check out the cake before it gets cut up later so any decorations on it can be enjoyed for more than a few minutes. There are a couple of drawbacks to this option... the dessert might dry out a bit or children could try to scoop some of the icing. Also find out if your cake needs to be kept refrigerated.
Another easy idea is to use some cut flowers in a pretty vase as your centerpiece. You can pick up a lovely arrangement the morning of the shower or you can pick your own flowers if you have a garden and the season is right. As an added bonus, the flowers can be sent home with the new mother as a cheerful reminder of a fun afternoon spent with family and friends.
If the new mother could use a bit of pampering, put together a gift basket of spa items that you know she'll be able to use to relax and get refreshed. This could be your centerpiece as well as your gift to her. Some items that could be included are moisturizing cream, facials, foot scrub and cream, a towel, loofah, and any other items you think she would enjoy. She probably won't have much time to pamper herself once the baby is born, so a little handmade coupon for a couple of hours of free babysitting thrown in could be a welcome gesture.
If you're looking for a centerpiece that is more on the cute side, a nice basket with a teddy bear or other stuffed animal could make a nice decoration for your party. You can also add some small balloons or baby items around the stuffed toy. A ribbon around the basket gives it a finished look.
Decorating for a baby shower should be fun, not a last minute rush ten minutes before guests are scheduled to arrive. You don't want them to find you winded from blowing up balloons as they're entering your home! An easy centerpiece is a great decoration that doesn't need to take much time or energy to create, yet adds so much to atmosphere of the shower.
